Ive never really realized how effective CoP’s are. i was doing some research on CoP’s and found some really interesting information. for instance, http://www.ifla.org/IV/ifla71/papers/066e-Chaudhry.pdf makes some very profound points on CoP’s. i hadn’t understood either that theres some CoP’s just specifically dedicated to communities on how they want there community to be (click here). I would never have guessed that the “little man” had such a loud voice for helping to make an impact his or her society. MIT has even done some of there own research on CoP’s and there effectiveness on there information to be correct (click here),its really interesting to find out that information is valuable when the information comes from a single mind with integridy. its really cool that children are even affected by this type of thing. they us after school programs to learn certain things, and even this would be a form of CoP. so its great to see that children, the builders of the future, are learning how to learn effectively for the future. I feel that perhaps if CoPs were more mainstream, and easier to find rather than the individual looking for the CoP, we would essentially in my eye’s have a more intelligent nation.
“Communities of Practice” interesting learning method.

I find it really neat that you also found that children and everybody are using communities of practice. Most people only see communities of practice being used by companies.
I agree about how the CoPs can make our nation more intelligent. I dont understand a few sentences around the beginning though – looks a lil messy. I been thinking we should have a CoP out of class?
What I found interesting, is how challenging it is to organize a CoP. There are many factors involved such as motivation, technical aspects, useful and current topics, etc. I hope they become easier to find in the future. This is a good article on setting up a CoP. http://www.co-i-l.com/coil/knowledge-garden/cop/knowing.shtml
Responding to your comment. If anything you should start your own CoP, all it takes is a small group of people that want to learn and teach others about any information involving your interest. Who knows maybe i just might be interested in getting involved in it. Like I mentioned when we first started this quarter “I just really love to learn, that is why I am here”.
I believe that many of us have already engaged in informal CoPs in our entire life without really knowing it. I think brainstorming is one form of doing so. It is a great way to increase collective intelligence.
